So I've learnt what a ning is - they mustn't have really taken off as you never hear anyone talking about them these days.
I've also just signed up to Slideshare and added a slideshow.

I've just added feedburn to my blog and explored survey monkey but I don't think they'll be much use for me. Maybe for managers wanting to keep track of website usage but not for me at my level of responsibility.

I think that libraries could use twitter for advertising and like my team leader once said, use it during busy times to tell people when a table or the study room becomes free.
